PIM GUIDE FOR NEWCOMERS

in

This guide is intended to help newcomers understand the PIM world and its different activities.

The first three sections of this page aim to give information about PIM structure, to explain PIM activities/resources and to describe the main elements of the annual conference.
The last part is to give you hints on how to use PIM resources.

Activities     Back to the Top

  • Survey
Starting from PIM 2003 Conference in Mexico City, PIM has initiated an annual membership report system to collect and maintain exchange data and compile international education activities from each member school. This enables the organization to identify where our consortium has been most effective and where it requires attention to maximize its potential. The results of the annual survey are usually presented during PIM conference. Operational details: every year the Network Coordinator sends out a message inviting Member Schools to complete the survey, with all relevant information and instructions to fill in the survey and providing the link to reach the survey form.

  • Pim Forum
The PIM Forum is intended to be a tool for administrators to share comments and information regarding programs, best practices, new assignment, etc… Moreover, it is used for all dues announcements, deadlines, fact sheets, member updates, etc. That is to say anything that can be handled by the administrators/primary PIM point people.

  • Fact Sheet
Fact Sheets are brief information forms about PIM Schools, to help coordinators advice exchange students going abroad. Every year Member Schools are required to upload their fact sheet on the website, with updated information regarding contact persons, term dates, deadlines, academic/experience requirements, grading systems, living expenses, student services etc.

Conference     Back to the Top

  • Market Place
This is the time dedicated to exchange coordinators, to discuss and negotiate student flows and numbers.

  • Coordinators' Meeting
This section is specifically designed for administrators, even if everyone is invited to take part in the meetings. The topics are decided year by year. They are mainly focused on managing activities connected with the exchange programs, such as best practices, administrative matters, new programs, structural changes in partner universities.

  • Business Meetings
These sessions are dedicated to the discussion of issues strictly related to PIM and all participants to the conference are invited to attend, provided they represent Schools that are PIM full members (no Guest Schools).

  • Guest School Participation
Guest Schools are welcome to participate to the annual conference. They can take part to the opening speech and to all social events but they are not allowed to attend Business Meetings.

  • Gala Dinner
This is the main event of all the social gatherings. Formal attire is usually required.

How To...     Back to the Top

  • Send out a message through the NetworkPIM Forum
To send out a message through the NetworkPIM Forum you have two options.

    1. You can write an email and address it to NetworkPIM@yahoogroups.com (group names are not case sensitive). Note: you can only post to groups you've joined, and only from email addresses registered with Yahoo! Groups. If you misspell the name of a group, or attempt to send an email from an account other than the one you joined under, your message will not be delivered. If you receive a failure notice, check your email addresses and try again.
    2. You go to the Forum page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NetworkPIM/ . After you have entered the restricted area click Post, write your message, and then click Send Message. Note: Yahoo! Groups restricts messages to 1 megabyte in size to prevent abuse.

  • Update your Fact Sheet

The PIM website aims to provide the most current information about its Member Schools. In June of every year the PIM coordinator sends out a request to update your fact sheet - please send your new fact sheet to SabinePIM@mccombs.utexas.edu.

  • Use the PIM Logo

Click on the Coordinators tab on top of the page to find the link to the official PIM logo files (updated in 2004) in various formats. You may download them individually or in one ZIP file. To download image files such as JPG image files, simply follow the link, then right click on the image and choose "Save As" in your browser. To save the EPS, PSD and ZIP formats, simply click on the file and follow your internet browser's prompts.
You can use the logos for Word and/or Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations and even for items that will be printed, such as t-shirts, mugs etc.

  • Find contact numbers

PIM website is a useful tool to find all the contact numbers of PIM. To do that you go to the link Members Directory and then surf the database. You can search contacts using different criteria (i.e. name, last name, university, school, etc…)

  • Print the PIM Certificate

As a PIM Member School you may wish to give a PIM Certificate to your incoming exchange students, stating they have attended a semester at your University. Please click on the link below to download a sample copy (in ppt format) that you can modify with your University logo, name and contacts: download the PIM Certificate

Call for Professors

in

Here you will find updated information about Visiting Professors opportunities offered by PIM Schools.

Warwick Business School announces new Visiting Scholars Scheme

Warwick Business School has launched the Warwick Visiting Scholars Scheme to create a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and practice worldwide. Academics from institutions outside the U.K. who are interested in developing a research link with a WBS subject group or research centre, or who already have an existing link with WBS (such as PIM members), are invited to spend between one and six months at Warwick Business School. In addition to engaging in research it is hoped that Visiting Scholars will have an interest in the development of modules on one of the WBS undergraduate, postgraduate or post-experience programmes.
Further information about the Visiting Scholars Scheme can be found at http://www.wbs.ac.uk/about/global/scholars.cfm
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and should address the following points and be emailed to ann.jackson@wbs.ac.uk:

   1. Why your application should be considered.
   2. Which group/research centre you would like to reside in (see http://www.wbs.ac.uk/faculty/research_teaching.cfm)
   3. A brief summary of the research to be undertaken.
   4. Identify an area of course collaboration.
   5. Demonstrate how collaboration between the schools would be strengthened through the visit.
   6. Indicate if you would like to contribute to teaching or a specific research project.
   7. Date of proposed visit (to and from).

Guest School Information

in

In order to meet its strategic objectives for growth, the PIM network identifies top-quality MBA (or graduate business programs) and periodically invites these universities to be candidates for future membership consideration. These schools are well-ranked regionally, have a broad offering of English language courses and are located in countries where PIM exchange students have a significant interest in studying.

For more information on the guest school process, review the PIM Membership Committee's Guidelines for Membership, established at the 2003 Annual Meeting. You can download the file trough the link below.

PIM History

in

In 1973, three graduate business schools, Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC), New York University (NYU), and London Business School (LBS), succeeded in overcoming academic isolationism and multiple logistical obstacles to make student exchanges a reality. Through continuous dialogue and a strong commitment to the idea, three faculty members – Ed Altman, Richard Zisswiller and Jim Ball – now Sir James Ball – created the first international business student exchange network.

PIM, « Partnership in International Management », is today a consortium of top business schools from around the world that exchanges select graduate students for one academic term. PIM is governed by a covenant signed by all PIM members in 1986 in Milan and revised in 1994 in Rotterdam and 1999 in Melbourne. The PIM Steering Committee is comprised of three elected chairpersons responsible for strategic planning and membership.

Additional top schools joined the community recently (Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, Indian School of Business Hyderabad), making PIM growing to a network of 57 business schools worldwide. Member institutions share reputations for upholding the highest degree of academic excellence both regionally and globally and value the organization’s spirit of international cooperation among its students, faculty and administrations. PIM member institutions have exchanged several thousands of students through the years. The know-how acquired within PIM has permitted members to develop and enhance the international commitment of their institutions. Members meet annually to network, share best practices, discuss PIM’s strategies for growth and development and collectively address issues that impact international education.

Universities that wish to join the network are encouraged to review the Guidelines for Guest Schools (revised version soon available).

What does PIM offer?

  • Mutual recognition of both the quality and reputation of partner universities.
  • The definition of the basic rules of the game involved in student exchanges. These rules have become universal: balanced exchange flows, tuition fees paid to the home institution, transfer of credits acquired in the host institution towards the home degree.
  • Networking on best practices in exchange coordination, new program development, academic equality issues, global trends in business education and other issues of mutual interest.
  • Further cooperation through exchanges of professors and common research projects.
